Ethical Approach

At Latitude South, we are committed to acting ethically in all we do.

For this reason we refer to our team as “legal consultants”, not lawyers, attorneys or solicitors. Even though we are qualified to practice law in jurisdictions as far ranging as the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Cayman Islands (and have previously practised as lawyers in these jurisdictions for many years) Latitude South is not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice and our team members do not hold current practising certificates. Latitude South provides outsourced legal services to support UK law firms and in-house legal teams who face the end-client.

Prior to establishing Latitude South, we consulted with the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the UK and sought guidance in relation to the New Zealand Rules of Conduct and Client Care for Lawyers to ensure that the range of legal services we offer to corporate legal teams and law firms, and the way we promote these legal services, does not infringe relevant ethical rules or standards.

Our commitment to acting ethically is evidenced not only by this disclosure but in our internal security policies and procedures restricting the use of information obtained from, or relating to, our clients.

Prior to working for Latitude South each legal consultant must, amongst other requirements:

  • undertake in writing to keep client information confidential
  • agree to abide by the New Zealand Rules of Conduct and Client Care for Lawyers, even though our legal consultants do not hold current New Zealand practising certificates.
